As the founder of Kuumba-Nia Productions, the love for puppetry began when I, Meada Taylor, was a stay-at-home mom and my children had their little childhood tendencies such as biting, hitting, and never wanting to sleep. My late husband performed improv puppet shows about these subjects which the kids memorized by heart, their own version, and soon took over the show. Unconsciously they changed their behaviors and were teachers of others their age.
Eventually, they grew up. However, I couldn't let go of the impact this art form had on children. My husband dropped the ball, I picked it up and ran with it.
In doing so,
I found that the myth of puppetry being just for children was false. Puppetry could be used for a variety of out-of-the-box purposes. Puppets could speak to children of all ages. Puppetry became my passion. Kuumba-Nia Productions was born. "Creativity With a Purpose"
Our mission statement is: To help develop productive citizens through the art of puppetry and drama. Our children have become just that.
Thank- You Mr. A . Taylor Jr.!
In the quest to keep puppetry alive, we engage in puppet shows which may be original or adaptive in origin. We also offer workshops in puppet performance, puppet building, puppet production, and basic acting and theatre techniques.
Due to Covid, in-person services are limited (By appointments only). Yet because of technology, there will be virtual opportunities to experience puppetry.
